WORKSHOP A: Key Steps For Creating A Roadmap That Supports Your Intranet Vision
Habanero Consulting
A great intranet has a strong and compelling vision that's shared, understood, and creates exceptional employee experiences. Yet with multiple stakeholders and shifting priorities, it can be hard to maintain a vision as your intranet moves through design, development, and evolution.

Roadmaps provide everyone with confidence that functionality will be built and value will be continually delivered to the organization. In tying the big ideas to user goals, stakeholder outcomes, and all the things that need to be in place to make each element successful.

Roadmaps are an amazing tool to help a team maintain a strong and compelling intranet vision.

In this interactive workshop, learn the activities necessary to build a roadmap that supports your intranet vision, including how to:

  • Build a shared and compelling design vision with stakeholders
  • Assess and prioritize your intranet’s features and functionality
  • Identify conditions and measures for success

WORKSHOP C: Don't Make Your Next Video, Design It! Break Through The Mystery As You Learn Timeless Tactics & Trending Techniques
12 Stars Media
Typically when we think of design in communications, we think of graphic design or the layout of a webpage or email newsletter. Rarely, do we use the word design when speaking about video. In fact, part of the intrigue of video is the mysterious nature of what goes on behind the scenes. In fact, the whole concept of "behind the scenes" may be popularized by video and film production more than by any other industry. So, what exactly happens behind the scenes and how can communicators break through the mystery and learn it for themselves?

The art of design is perhaps the most overlooked and underutilized aspect of video production by those outside the craft. What so many observers call "movie magic" can be demystified by looking into the careful design that takes place during each and every step of the process.

In this workshop, attendees will be guided through the entire video production process from a new perspective - the perspective of the designer. They'll learn timeless tactics as well as trending techniques to take a proactive, careful approach to every step of the process whether they're producing the video themselves on a smartphone or working with a six-figure budget and twenty-member crew.

Attendees will experience:
  • Design in Development - the Synopsis
  • Design in Pre-production - the Storyboard
  • Design in Production - the Director
  • Design in Post-Production - the Cutting Room
  • Design in Distribution - the Promotion

Creating the Right Content Mix for Your Employees: How Much Information, What Channels, and How Often
Concur
Ask any artisan: having, choosing, and knowing how to use the right tool makes all the difference. But often internal communicators get directives such as:

“Gauge employee sentiment” - ”Improve end user adoption” - “Make a video about our awesome culture.”

Then you’ll be handed a coat hanger, some aluminum foil, and duct tape to make it all happen!

Whether you’re feeling a bit like MacGyver on a shoestring budget or you were handed a blank check most of us would envy, see how the Production Communications team at Concur has managed to figure out the right content mix for all employees, including how to:

  • Execute against a simple goal to improve employees’ product IQ
  • Produce and publish a bi-monthly 3-minute video without pulling your hair out
  • Utilize email software – in this case Newsweaver -- to measure the effectiveness of your internal email channel
  • Use a video sharing platform like Vimeo to analyze, compare, and act on user-driven behavior

We’re Not What You’d Expect: Modernizing Government For The New Millennium
Port of Portland

A 125-year-old organization can’t maintain a modern appearance without a little freshening up. For the Port of Portland, a quasquicentennial was the perfect motivation to check on perceptions – internally and externally – of the Port as an employer of choice.

After engagement surveys and new employee focus groups, Corporate Communications and Human Resources teamed up to draft a brand promise and create:

  • A social media-friendly recognition tool
  • A modernized careers website
  • Launch activities for both that involved employees visually and verbally
  • PROPS (Peer Recognition of Port Staff) real time employee recognition and rewards

You will learn how we used a network of “site champions” to build excitement and exceeded the first month’s 80% activation goal with a rate of 88% in just two weeks.

The speed at which technology changes and improves increases exponentially. While every piece of new technology may not be relevant to every company, it’s important for communicators to have a basic understanding of new technology and its capabilities. Internal communicators tend to be more on the bleeding edge (than cutting edge) of technology, providing a safer and more risk-free approach.

This session will provide you with an overview of a number of new technologies, including how to:

  • Gain an understanding of each’s strength to see what would work best in your organization
  • Secure organizational buy-in into technology investments
